On Sunday 7th June, the school Samba Band, led by Affy Ahmad and supported by members of the Music and Art Department, participated in the Madri Gras Parade that marked the official opening of the Glasgow West End Festival. The band was sponsored by Di Maggio's who kitted the band out in t-shirts and accessories to match the 'In Bloom' theme of the parade, before treating them to lunch in their West End restaurant. The parade went from the Botanic Gardens, down Byres Road, onto Dumbarton Road and past the Kelvingrove Art Gallery before a very tired band finished in Kelvingrove Park after nearly 2 hours of performing. The sun shone for the whole time and a great time was had by all, including the 100,000 people who turned up to spectate. For more pictures click here | |
