Open Evening

19/5/2016

The new Clyde Valley campus played host to over 400 visitors last Thursday evening, as the school opened its doors to the public to celebrate its opening. Former pupils and staff joined current pupils, parents and residents as they toured the sun-filled school.
Visitors received a warm welcome into the building by senior pupils and members of the Senior Leadership Team and they were treated to some musical entertainment provided by the school’s pipers and drummers. Their joyous sounds filled the social area and reverberated around the school.                                                 For more pictures click here

Head teacher, Mr Nick Quail, started the evening by addressing some 300 people in the school’s assembly hall. He talked through future plans for the school and showed some photographs of pupils and staff enjoying their new space. The audience were then treated to two songs from the senior and staff choir. They performed their renditions of ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ and ‘United We Stand’. The entertainment did not end there however, as 2 S4 pupils, Josh Mathieson and Amy McLeod, took to the stage to perform two scenes from the popular drama, ‘Tally’s Blood’. Ann Marie di Mambro’s text is studied in both the Drama and English departments in the school.
The guests were then given free rein to enjoy the school. All departments were represented on the evening and had set up displays or practical lessons for visitors to view. Partnership Officer, Mrs Esther Craig, and Mr Andrew Keating, had set up an interactive growth mindset display in a pupil support room. The Mathematics department were putting maths skills to the test through some active maths lessons. Miss Lisa McKinstry, Home Economics, had enlisted the help of pupils to provide some baking for parents to sample, fresh from the oven. PE, Art, Music and Design Technology had also involved pupils to showcase some of the work that is done in these departments. The Science department was the clear favourite on the evening, where experiments took place all evening and in every classroom. Visitors laughed as their hair was made to stand on end by using the Van der Graaf machine, in Science room 2 with Mr Tony Jones, PT Science. Miss Anushi Pathmanathan’s, Science room 3 was busiest of all. She had set up various experiments including the dissection of lungs and hearts, a camera case explosion and elephant’s toothpaste, to name a few.
Guests were invited to engage in an informal chat about their experience in the social area of the school where tea and coffee was provided.
Mr Quail, was thrilled with the feedback from the hundreds of visitors to the school. He reported that they had been thoroughly impressed with the architecture and many commented on the wonderful atmosphere around the school. Visitors had enjoyed speaking informally to staff and enjoyed watching pupils take part in lessons across many of the departments. Mr Quail, would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff and pupils for their participation on the night and for helping to showcase the new school. He would also like to extend his gratitude to all visitors for their attendance and their positive feedback.
