3 Clyde Valley pupils recently paid a visit to Scotland’s Rural College, Broxburn. Amy Douglas, Amy Street and Jenna McFarlane, spent a day at the college to experience what they had to offer. On arrival the girls were met with some of the college tutors and watched a powerpoint about the college and what was involved in their courses. The girls were then treated to a tour of the college where they looked at different types of plants and then got to be a bit more hands on with the livestock. They were shown how to round up cattle and then how to weight them, along with being allowed to tag and ring sheep. They learned about the different breeds of sheep and cattle before they moved on to the equine centre. There, they learned of the many breeds and colours of horse, before being shown the different points of a horse. Finally, the girls were encouraged to watch the various horse-riding lessons that took place during the day. On their return to school, the girls reported that they had found the day to be very interesting and most enjoyable.
