North Lanarkshire Council are consulting on their proposals to change the qualifying distance for free mainstream school transport from two miles to three miles from the school, with some defined exceptions.
Your Parent Council are writing to urge you to take part in the consultation process and express your opinions on the proposed changes.
It is very important that your Local Authority are made aware of your views regarding this important change so please make sure you complete and return the form at the back of the consultation pack to arrive before 9th January 2018.
More details are on the council website, here: https://www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=33419
You can also access a copy of the documents at your local library. The documents include FAQ's and, in particular, the Council have published initial assessments of which areas are likely to keep or lose entitlement.
The Council have held a series of public meetings that were announced in the consultation letters, including one at Clyde Valley High School. At the meeting in Clyde Valley High School, the audience included local councillors, teachers, representatives of school bus operators as well as parents from affected schools in the area. Council officers (but not local Councillors) formed the panel at the meeting to answer public queries regarding the proposed changes. However, as council officials they aren't permitted to address any points regarded as party political.
Please take some time to read the information, including the FAQ's and consultation documents and do make your views known by responding in writing to the consultation at the addresses given in the Council's consultation documents
Note that writing to your Councillor, MSP and / or MP will not count as a response to the consultation, so it's important that you write to the consultation address first.
Yours Sincerely
Linda Steven
Chairperson
Clyde Valley High School Parent Council
