Clyde Valley pupils along with pupils from Castlehill and Overtown Primary Schools took part in the third annual Champions in Schools programme. Each year an athlete attends the school for 3 visits to work with a chosen group of pupils from S1/2 and P6/7s from the two primaries-which are merging next year. Pupils from Clyde Valley were chosen based on their attendance at the after school rugby club. |
Our champion athlete this year was Scott Wight, Scotland Rugby 7s Player and ex-Glasgow Warriors. Visit 2 and 3 were merged and took place in Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility where the children enjoyed a tour of the Scotland 7s training facilities, tested their speed in the Speed Gates, played touch rugby, attended a workshop on dealing with failure, viewed a training session and even tried some of the training for themselves. At the end of the session and after a photo with the team, the pupils commented on how hard the fitness training really was and that they had a better understanding of how to deal with failure and turn it in to success.
