For many Wishaw residents the old building will have happy memories of when they were a pupil or even a member of staff attending Clyde Valley High school or prior to that when it was the home of Garrion Academy.
In order to mark this occasion, and to allow people to have one last look before its gone, Clyde Valley High School is planning to have an open evening on November the 24th 2015 from 5pm to 8pm. Anyone who is interested can come along and have one last look around the old place before it’s demolished. The event will include:
- Choir performance
- Display of photographs
- Display of press cuttings from the Wishaw Press
- Guided tour
- Introduction (photographs, plans, artists’ impressions etc.) to the new building
Clyde Valley High School opened for teaching on Wednesday 17 August 1992. The school was formed from the amalgamation of two of the three previous non-denominational secondary schools serving Wishaw town and its surrounding districts – namely Garrion Academy and Wishaw High School.
Garrion Academy was opened on 15 March 1971 and occupied the same building that is now Clyde Valley High. At the time, Garrion Academy had been purpose-built to provide a broad education for all young people, regardless of their background or ability.
Work on the new Clyde Valley Campus, housing both the secondary school and the amalgamated primary school combining Overtown Primary and Castlehill Primary began in the Spring of 2014. As well as modern and fully-equipped departments and classrooms, the campus – which is anticipated to cost upwards of £25 million – will also boast full-size and seven-a-side synthetic sports pitches, games hall, fitness room and an impressive central assembly hall that will act as the facility’s hub, leading out to a unique outdoor amphitheater. The anticipated entry date is January 2016.
